Curated by Y. E. Torres, A Moving Theater of Absolute Uniqueness (OR the aesthetic pleasure of pioneering creativity) seeks to encourage unconventional performance that is influenced by contemporary belly dance. This event intersects discipline-defying, breakthrough projects which challenge conventional ideas about movement, costume, installation and its application in performance. A Moving Theater of Absolute Uniqueness will serve as an outlet for experimentation by creating an environment for artistic growth and expanding public access to non-traditional dance in Houston, Texas.
A Moving Theater of Absolute Uniqueness
is part of a larger project with pioneer performer, Jill Parker of San
Francisco’s Foxglove Sweethearts. This project includes 2 days of
workshops, a one-night event/performance, and a Q & A – all
accessible and open to the public. A Moving Theater of Absolute Uniqueness
will include new works by Jill Parker of Foxglove Sweethearts, Y. E.
Torres, Sandy Ewen and artists found via a Call for Entry. This project
will be Parker’s Houston premier and first visit to Texas since 2006.

The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies are the Houston, TX based visual and performance art troupe co-founded by Jessie, Luna and ms. YET. Their pieces combine visual art, inventive costuming and belly dance into their original shows. Using the language of belly dance to present their eclectic vision of performance, the Renegades embody artistic expression through movement.
